Where We Come From

The Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship (LCE) was founded in 1989 to fuse entrepreneurship and innovation at the University of Oregon’s College of Business and throughout the campus. While entrepreneurship centers were in short supply at the time of its inception, investment competitions were nearly non-existent. In light of this absence, the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship pioneered the New Venture Championship competition as an extension of its leadership and a platform for innovative business ideas.

Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship, which continually ranks as a top 25 graduate school programs out of over 2,500 schools polled by Princeton Review, continues this tradition of leadership as an entrepreneurship education innovator in 2012. The LCE is proud to celebrate the role the New Venture Championship has played in fostering the entrepreneurial spirit at the University of Oregon, and other reputable higher education institutions in the United States and other reputable United States college institutions and campuses across the globe.

At the Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship, we champion the spirit of entrepreneurship that lies at the heart of every great business. Serving the Charles H. Lundquist College of Business, our core mission is to educate, inspire, and empower future entrepreneurs, instilling in students the core characteristics of entrepreneurship: innovation, initiative, passion and dedication. We strive to provide an educational atmosphere where students can gain an understanding of the creative process and the detail orientation crucial to a successful venture.

The first New Venture Championship competition was held in a classroom at the University of Oregon. Only three teams participated and the grand prize was less than $300. The Oregon NVC has since grown to become one of the premiere business plan competitions in the world. In the span of 20 years, over 300 teams, 1300-plus student competitors and 1000-plus judges and faculty have experienced NVC.

The NVC continues to be the nexus of entrepreneurial drive in the Oregon investment community by fostering innovation for the next generation of business leaders. The energy is infectious and the students are inspirational.
